"I haven't lost a game." Mattarella meets with the women's national soccer team.

A "high-level, high-quality tournament" with which "you sent a message to our country's society." This was stated by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, addressing the Azzurre women's national football team, fresh from the European Championship, at the Quirinale Palace. The head of state offered the players "congratulations for how magnificently you performed at this European Championship. And I'm not saying this because someone let me know, but because I've always followed you, whenever I could: it's been a magnificent journey."

"Women's football," he emphasized, recalling a similar meeting held six years ago, "must be supported and encouraged. Much progress has been made in six years." Mattarella renewed, as he did six years ago, the "reference to Article 3 of the Constitution on equality, equal opportunities, and equal conditions: since prehistoric times, everything has been increasingly difficult for women," a situation that, "fortunately, is being overcome. But there is still a long way to go."

"Sport sets an example; it can improve social relationships, strengthen and consolidate them." And in this, he added, addressing the Azzurre, "you have made an important contribution to making the country more just and aware."
